CFATS - Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards
The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards for any facility that manufactures, uses, stores, or distributes certain chemicals at or above a specified quantity.
Accordingly, DHS requires all chemical facilities to comply with regulatory requirements as detailed in 6 CFR Part 27 (CFATS). The process includes completing a screening process or Top-Screen for potentially dangerous materials, identifying vulnerabilities through a security vulnerability assessment (SVA), and developing a site security plan (SSP).
In order to ensure compliance with the site security plan (SSP), government inspectors will conduct inspections and/or audits of high-risk facilities at regular intervals with tier-1 facilities being inspected first and more frequently. All other facilities are also subject to ongoing inspection.
Inspectorate’s Supply Chain Security team can assess and audit facilities, and work with clients to provide ongoing monitoring and training to ensure compliance.
